OGS Graduate Student Intern: Iris Deana Ruiz

Iris Ruiz As the OGS Graduate Student Intern, I serve as both a student advocate and consultant to the administration. I attend the Dean of Graduate Studies' Cabinet meetings and am involved in administrative decisions about graduate education at UCSD. Working with the Graduate Student Association, I carry out projects to raise the quality of graduate student life, and introduce ideas for improving services for students.

I bring to this position my experiences as a PhD student in Literature where I study both multicultural approaches to teaching Composition and Latin American Literature and History. As a PhD student in the Humanities, I face many of the challenges common to graduate students at UCSD including the difficulties of balancing research, teaching, parenting and life.

Coming upon my fourth year now at UCSD, I am familiar with numerous resources available to grad students. Working at OGS, I continue to learn about the resources and opportunities for grad students at UCSD. There are so many people at UCSD that want to help you succeed. If you are looking for a particular resource or assistance with a problem, please feel free to contact me. I may be able to point you in the right direction and get you connected to the resources you need. You can reach me via e-mail at ogs-intern@ucsd.edu or by phone at 543-6230.
