IMSD Scholars will be selected on a competitive basis. You are eligible to apply
if you:
|
- Are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Are African American, Mexican American/Latino American, Filipino, American Indian,
or Native Pacific Islanders (from Hawaii, American Samoa, and Guam)
- Are interested in graduate study and research in the biomedical sciences.
- Are enrolled as a Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry/Biochemistry, or Biophysics
major.
- Have at least 40 units by the end of the Spring quarter.

Have a minimum 3.0 GPA with exceptions made for special circumstances. Freshman
must have a 2.8 GPA or higher.
- Must have passed BILD 1, Chem 6A, Math 10A or higher with grades of B or better.

To be a successful applicant, you must also demonstrate that you:

Have successfully overcome significant educational, social, cultural, or economic
disadvantage or adversity in a way that displays persistence, determination, hard
work, and resourcefulness. This might include the absence of a role model, absence
of immediate family member who received a bachelor’s degree, graduation from a low
performing high school with limited offerings, or family financial needs and economic
hardship that required you to work during high school to support the family or save
money for college.

Have a commitment and strong potential to succeed at UCSD.

Have outstanding potential for leadership.

Application Procedure

A complete IMSD Scholars Program application includes all of the following:
|
- A completed and signed application form.
- A personal essay (no more than one typed page)
- A current transcript ( may be an unofficial printout from TritonLink)
- One letter of recommendation (faculty preferred)
- A printout of your current Financial Aid standing from StudentLink
|
