Major Fellowship Direct Access

These national fellowship organizations presently offer application information and forms through Website links. Please contact the agency directly for downloading or requesting applications to be sent to you.

Ford Foundation

Three-year fellowships for graduate students in master's and doctoral research programs (professional practice and terminal master's degree programs excluded) for underrepresented minority groups-- Alaskan Natives (Eskimo/Aleut), American Indians, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanos, Native Pacific islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Approximately 60 fellowships will be awarded. Deadline for receipt of applications is November 20.

Hertz Foundation

One-year fellowships, renewable for up to five years, for outstanding graduate students in the applied physical sciences. Deadline for postmark of applications is November 1.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Predoctoral Fellowships in Biological Sciences

NIH - Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award

This award provides research training in specified areas of biomedical and behavioral research. Deadlines are April 5, August 5, and December 5 each year. A sample application can be downloaded HERE. Please note that items #14 on page 1 and the bottom of "Form Page 8" have already been filled in for you.

National Science Foundation

Three-year fellowships provide support for graduate study leading to research-based master's or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering and are intended for students in the early stages of their graduate study. Approximately 900 graduate fellowships are awarded per year. Includes programs for minority and women students. Deadline for receipt of applications is early November.

U.S. Department of Education Jacob Javits Fellowship Program

Up to four years of fellowship support for graduate students in arts, humanities, or social sciences leading to the M.F.A or Ph.D. degree who have not yet completed their first year of study at the time of application. Deadline for receipt of applications is November 30.
