GUIDE, Graduates United in the Interests of Diversity and Excellence, was created to meet the varying and constantly changing needs of graduate students at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Through student-to-student interactions, this program aims to build community amongst graduate students.
One approach to building community is by promoting positive interactions between incoming and continuing graduate students, who function as their Peer Advocates. By creating these pairs, an additional layer of support can be created within the department. Additionally, GUIDE participants, regardless of discipline, are connected through GUIDE events and activities that occur throughout the academic year. By having these additional networks, GUIDE participants will have a more wholesome and enriching graduate experience at UCSD.
This program is funded by the Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) - a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
