Graduate Enrichment Program

General Program

This program is designed to promote the success of graduate students by:

  • Encouraging student service activities to improve retention and diversity;
  • Encouraging inclusive activities that proactively promote positive department environments for all students;
  • Providing assistance to supplement what the departments and faculty normally provide through traditional channels.

Activities shown below lists a few proposals that have been funded in past years with graduate enrichment monies.

If you wish to participate in the program, we ask you to:

  • describe your project;
  • identify a graduate student coordinator, if applicable; and
  • attach a budget giving the estimated costs of your project.

Your proposal should reach OGS in June. The typical grant awarded each department has been approximately $850.00. It is expected that awards will be made no later than July. We do ask you to keep in mind the primary purposes of the program, which are to provide academic enrichment and student services, not financial support, to graduate students. We encourage departments/programs to collaborate with student service offices on campus to enhance your activities. Funding for travel allowances are not allowed. Refreshments are allowed.

Feel free to call me (x43550) should you have any questions and I am glad to discuss ideas with you.

Student Service Pilot Projects

OGS Student Affairs accepts proposals for pilot projects that enhance graduate student services efforts. They should provide needed activities to graduate students and support the diversity efforts of the campus by actively promoting an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. In general the projects should focus on the personal and cultural environments of the students. Academic support or training related to course work or degree requirements will not be considered unless it is uniquely integrated into broader retention and service effort. The parameters for the proposals have been left very open to encourage new creative approaches.

 Collaborations with campus student service units and resource centers are encouraged. The following student service units, campus centers, and programs have participated in the past: Cross Cultural Center, Women's Center, Career Services Center, Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Resource Center, Sexual Harassment Prevention Program, and International House.

We encourage collaborations with other programs as well. Student groups, departments/programs, centers, or student service units may initiate proposals.

I welcome contacts to discuss ideas and clarify the purpose of the project.
