System-wide Childcare Reimbursement Program  
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
7/1/2008 Registered student with at least a 25% ASE appointment Reimbursable expenses and related procedures to be determined. ASE must have qualified dependents, i.e. non-school age children in the custody of the ASE. ASEs to receive up to $300/quarter for expenses incurred during the ASE's appointment period in the regular academic year.

Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP)
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current Registered Graduate Students with ASE appointment(s) or other eligible academic appointments totaling 25% or more of full-time for a given term receives SHIP Premium remission for each term worked. If SHIP premiums increase, UCSD will continue to provide 100% premium remissions to eligible ASEs. One SHIP premium remission per term worked. The SHIP premium remission for summer is paid for ASEs who worked during the Spring quarter.
 
Non-student University Health Insurance Program
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current ASEs who are not registered students or are not eligible to participate in the SHIP can participate in the non-student University Health Insurance Program (eligibility in accordance to University Health Program provisions). The University can alter the terms of the program. Costs in excess of the University contribution will be born by the employee and paid in accordance with program provisions.
 
ARTICLE 17: LEAVES see p. 16 ASE/UAW AGREEMENT
 
NB: ASEs are expected to contact the supervisor to request leave as soon as the need for leave becomes known but not less than one working day in advance of the commencement of the leave (unless the leave is unanticipated personal or family illness or bereavement). Requests for leave to be made in writing with information about the leave, probable duration, and any documentation included.
 
Military Leave
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current All ASEs who are called to active military service.   Military leave paid to the extent required by applicable law.
 
PAID Short-Term Medical and Family Leave
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current Salaried ASEs (Sub 0) Leave of absence for personal illness and/or disability; birth, adoption, or care of a child or family member (see definition below); family emergencies. Period of paid leave no more than 2 days for ASEs appointed at 50% for a regular academic quarter. Paid leave will be pro-rated for ASEs employed for other than 50% FTE. Leave will be unpaid for hourly ASEs.
 
UNPAID Short-Term Medical and Family Leave
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current Salaried ASEs (Sub 0) Unpaid leave may be granted for periods beyond paid leaves above, but shall not exceed the end of the appointment period. Unpaid, but may be paid (in whole or in part) at the discretion of the department for personal illness and/or disability; birth, adoption, or care of a child or family member (see definition below); family emergencies.
 
Long-Term Family-Related Leave
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current Salaried ASEs (Sub 0) - CHILDBEARING Leave should be requested at least 30 days in advance. May be combined for a maximum of 4 weeks leave during the academic year, and not past the end date of the ASE's appointment. Up to 4 weeks paid leave for childbirth or related medical conditions for the period prior to, during, and after childbirth.
Current Salaried ASEs (Sub 0) - OTHER LEAVE Leave should be requested at least 30 days in advance. May be combined for a maximum of 4 weeks leave during the academic year, and not past the end date of the ASE's appointment. Up to 2 weeks paid leave for a serious health condition (defined under the Family Medical Leave Act) of the ASE or ASE's family member (see definition below). May be used for the care and bonding with an ASE's newborn or newly adopted child.
 
Bereavement Leave
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current Salaried ASEs (Sub 0) The University will grant an ASE’s reasonable request for bereavement leave due to the death of a family member (see definition below). Up to 3 days paid leave per occurrence on days the ASE was scheduled to work. The Department can grant a longer period of paid bereavement leave.
Current ASEs - non-salaried (Sub 2) The University will grant an ASE’s reasonable request for bereavement leave due to the death of a family member (see definition below). Up to 3 days unpaid leave per occurrence. The Department may voluntarily provide pay if desired.
 
Jury Duty
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current All ASEs Verification of actual service for jury duty to be provided to the University on request. Pay for jury duty will not continue beyond the end date of the ASE's appointment.
 
Other Leaves
 
Effective Eligibility Terms Benefit
Current All ASEs Including but not limited to leave for service to government agencies and to attend professional meetings. May be granted with or without pay at the University's discretion or if required by applicable law.
 
Definition of 'family member' : "...one's mother, father, sister, brother, parent-in-law, spouse, domestic partner, parent of domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, child, step or foster child (incl. children of domestic partner)". Ref. Article 17.G.
