CTD Consultation Services include Individual Consultation as well as Course Consultation. Individual Consultation includes a feedback conference with a CTD staff member following observation of the instructor's teaching methods as well as a review and analysis of student feedback. Course consultation provides instructors with valuable resources for improving their teaching effectiveness.

Because it is difficult to evaluate a faculty member's teaching effectiveness based on a single visit to a classroom supplemented by student responses to questionnaire questions, the Center for Teaching Development has developed an approach to evaluation based on an in-depth analysis of several components of the teaching process; namely, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. See the following example of an actual faculty development report provided with permission of the faculty member requesting this report. These services are available to faculty upon request.

This handbook was created for the new instructor who generally comes to a research university like UCSD with considerable training and expertise in research, with perhaps less experience in teaching. The purpose of this handbook is to provide information that can be useful as you plan your own approach to teaching. It can be used to supplement information and advice you receive from colleagues and mentors in your department.
