Waiver Procedures

US citizens and permanent residents only may request a waiver of the application fee. All fee waivers are granted provisionally.  Applicants must provide supporting information and documentation to finalize the waiver.

Waivers are provided to applicants in the following situations:

  1. Applicants who are currently receiving need-based financial assistance from an undergraduate or graduate institution.

  2. Applicants who are able to demonstrate financial hardship

  3. Applicants who are participating in selected federal, state and private graduate school preparation programs.

To verify your eligibility for the application fee waiver you must provide supporting documentation. Fee waiver documentation should be submitted within two weeks after submitting your application for graduate admission. Your fee waiver request cannot be approved until the Graduate Admissions Office has received your application. To finalize the request for the fee waiver, print and complete the Application Fee Waiver Request Form and provide the supporting documentation as listed below.

  • Need Based Financial Aid -- Provide documentation of the federal need based financial aid you have received.

  • Financial Hardship -- Provide copies of your most recent state or federal tax forms. Click on the Income eligibility guidelines  to determine if you qualify.

  • Graduate Prep Program Participation -- On the online application select the program in which you participated. Provide the name and email address of the program director. The UCSD Graduate Admissions staff will verify the graduate school preparation program information provided in your application. If this verification cannot be completed, you will be asked to provide additional information.
