Transportation & Commuter Student Services
UCSD is located approximately 12 miles from downtown San Diego. There are transportation alternatives available to students without cars. San Diego Metropolitan Transit Service is available between north coast cities, UCSD and downtown San Diego. For San Diego Transit information call (800) 266-6883 or visit their website: www.sdcommute.com. Transit schedules are available from Rideshare Operations (located in the Gilman Drive parking structure) or by calling (858) 534-RIDE. Additional transit information is also available at parking.ucsd.edu. UCSD students are eligible for a discount on the purchase of a monthly regional bus pass, including all routes and trolley lines. Passes are sold at the Central Cashier's Office, Student Services Center.

Free Bus Route
A bus sticker is available at no charge to UCSD students and will provide you with one year of free, unlimited public bus rides within a designated area near campus. Currently the boundaries extend south on Genessee Avenue to Balboa and southwest to Pacific Beach, ending at West Mission Beach Drive.

Rideshare Operations
The Office of Rideshare Operations is ready to assist you with your commute to UCSD. This office provides programs and incentives to those who use vanpool, carpool, city transit, the Coaster, and bicycle to reach UCSD. Free zip code matching can assist you in forming a carpool with other UCSD affiliates. You can share the cost of one parking permit and save hundreds of dollars per year on your commuting expenses.

Pedal Club
The UCSD Rideshare Pedal Club offers incentives such as limited free parking and UCSD Bike Shop discounts, when you commit to riding a bike to campus at least three times a week and register your bike with the state of California periodically. All cyclists are required to adhere to the California Vehicle Code and obtain a California Bicycle Registration, available for $6.00 from the UCSD Police Department. Campus Shuttle Services
Shuttles operate all over campus for UCSD faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Photo ID may be required. Five routes operate during the academic year excluding quarter breaks and university holidays. The Campus Loop shuttles provide service to 20 shuttle stop locations throughout campus every 8 minutes. Service is provided from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to midnight on the weekends. The Nobel Cityshuttle stops at Nobel/La Jolla Village Square, Nobel/Lebon, and the Mandeville Auditorium every 15 minutes. The Arriba Cityshuttle stops at the Mandeville Auditorium, Regents/Nobel, Regents/Arriba, and Palmilla/Lebon every 8-10 minutes. UCSD also operates shuttles to the East Campus, North Campus, and Regents Road parking lots. For additional information on campus shuttle service, visit the parking web site at

Year-Round Shuttle Service
Four routes operate Monday through Friday year-round, excluding university holidays. The Coaster shuttle provides transportation between the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station and three UCSD campus locations. Schedule times vary to coincide with train departures. The Hillcrest/Campus shuttle provides service between the UCSD campus and the UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest every 20-30 minutes from 6:00 a.m. - 9:55 p.m. The Mesa Shuttle connects the New Rupertus Way turnout, Medical Center La Jolla, Early Childhood Education Center, and Mesa Housing every 15 minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 7:00 p.m. - midnight. The SIO Shuttle provides service to twelve shuttle stop locations t SIO and on campus every 15 minutes from 7:15 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. (7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. from SIO) and every 30 minutes from 6:15 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. (6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. from SIO). Finally, the Torrey Pines Center shuttle connects main campus to the university offices located at the Torrey Pines Center complex, running every 15 minutes from 7:15 a.m. to 5:08 p.m.

Additionally, lift-equipped shuttle buses are available on all regularly scheduled shuttle routes by making a reservation 24 hours in advance by calling (858) 534-6282. For shuttle routes and schedules, visit the parking web site at parking.ucsd.edu.

Parking
UCSD is located adjacent to Interstate-5. La Jolla Village Drive, Gilman Drive, or Genesee Avenue exits can be used to reach campus. Parking permits are required on campus Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Weekends are free. Daily parking permits are $6.00; meter parking is also available. Quarterly, monthly, and occasional use parking permits are available to graduate students at varying costs.

Disabled Parking Spaces
UCSD maintains hundreds of Disabled Parking (DP) spaces. A DP plate or placard can be used in metered parking (with no fee), and in DP spaces without a UCSD permit. DP placards must be displayed.
