Thank you for considering UCSD for your graduate study. Before you start the online application:

  • Contact the department and/or program in which you are interested.
  • Review the department website.
  • Make contacts to ensure your interests match what the department has to offer.
  • Read the department requirements found in the application Department and Program List

If you have previously registered as a graduate student at UCSD at any time, whether or not you completed any course work, DO NOT FILE A NEW APPLICATION. Obtain a petition for readmission from your former department, group, or school graduate office.

How to Apply Online: Create an Account

All application processes are online at the application Admissions website. To create an online application account you will need a valid email address. This email address will be your login name. It will also be the primary line of communication between you and UCSD. Be sure to use an address that will not change: do not use a temporary address. The activation email and additional instructions to complete your registration will be sent to this address.

In addition you will need to create a password to the account. Your password can be 5-12 characters long and cannot contain any spaces. You will need your email address and password every time you wish to access or modify any of your application information.

Multiple Applications

Applicants may make up to two applications with one application fee. Applicants may only make one application to the same department. To begin a second application, complete, pay for, and submit one application first.  Once the first application is submitted, return to the application website, login using the same login name and password, and click on the “Start a New Application” button.  Please do not use the back button on your browser or start a new account to begin the second application.  These actions will result in a second charge of the application fee.
